identity

November 12, 2009

If you are receiving your affirmation, love, self-worth, joy, strength and acceptance from anywhere but God, He will shake it.

I guess I just wanted to write a reminder (mostly to myself) to examine your life and see if there are areas where you are depending on something other than God. That is something I have been struggling with. Where do I find my identity? God has promises for my life, and when I remind myself of them, all of my problems go away.

Jeremiah 29:11 – “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”
Matthew 11:28 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Luke 6:35 – “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.”
John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 10:28 – “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.”
John 14:3 – “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
John 20:29 – “Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.'”
Romans 10:9 – “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
James 4:10 – “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”
Genesis 28:15 – “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land.  I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 – “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
